Honey Garlic Chicken Skewers (Air Fryer)

Marinated in a sweet and savory sauce, these Honey Garlic Chicken Skewers are so tasty and take only minutes in the air fryer to cook.  That’s what I’m talking about.

A simple marinade flavors the chicken pieces with a wonderful soy, honey and garlic flavor.  Then, simply skewer them, air fry them and you have an easy and mouth-watering dinner!

Start by soaking 6″ wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes.  I didn’t have that length so I simple broke some longer ones to fit my air fryer.

Combine all of the marinade ingredients together in a large bowl.  Place the chicken pieces in a zip-lock bag and add HALF of the marinade to the bag (reserve the remaining marinade to make a glaze).  Seal the bag, ensuring that all of the chicken is coated with the marinade, and place in the fridge for at least 4 hours.

With the remaining marinade, simmer it in a small saucepan until slightly reduced.  Remove it from the heat and set it aside.

Once the chicken has been marinaded, thread 7-8 pieces on a skewer and place them in the air fryer, about 1/2-inch apart.  Brush with glaze.

Air fry for about 15 minutes, flipping and brushing with more glaze halfway through.

Remove from air fryer and brush with remaining glaze.  Transfer the skewers to a platter, top with green onions and serve!

Honey Garlic Chicken Skewers (Air Fryer)

Makes: 4 servings

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 16 minutes

Total Time: 31 minutes plus marinating time 4 hours

Ingredients

Equipment:

  • 1 air fryer
  • 8 (6″) wooden skewers soaked in water for 30 minutes

Marinade/Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 3 tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 tbsps light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tsp sesame oil

Chicken:

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 thinly sliced green onion

Instructions

In a mixing bowl combine all sauce ingredients and whisk together. Transfer chicken to a resealable plastic bag or airtight container. Pour half marinade over chicken, tightly seal, shake up to mix and refrigerate for at least 4 hours and up to 24 hours.

Pour remaining marinade into a small pot and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes or until slightly reduced (Glaze will thicken as it cools). Remove from heat and set aside.

Once chicken has marinated, pierce 7 to 8 pieces of chicken through each skewer. Repeat until all chicken has been used.

Lightly spray air fryer basket with cooking spray and top with skewers, leaving about 1/2-inch space between each one (cook in batches to avoid overcrowding). Brush each skewer with glaze.

Air-fry chicken skewers at 400˚F for 8 minutes. Flip each skewer and brush with more glaze. Continue to air-fry for an additional 6 to 8 minutes or until chicken has cooked through.

Remove skewers from air fryer basket and brush with glaze once more. Transfer skewers to a serving dish, top with green onion and serve.

Can I bake these in the oven, I don’t have an air fryer. Looks delicious

      • Francine

Definitely! The grill would work even better, if you have that! For the oven, I’d set them on an oiled wire rack over a foil or parchment-lined sheet pan and bake them at 400°F for about 15 minutes, basting and turning every couple of minutes. Check either with a thermometer for 165°F internal temp or by cutting into a piece of chicken to be sure it’s cooked through. Enjoy!

I really enjoyed making this dish. It was so tasty. It was quick and I happened to have all the ingredients handy. I use my air fryer all the time for quick meals, so this was a breeze. Thank you Fran.
