My new favorite cocktail is the Sassy Paloma. It’s refreshing, it’s a little boozy and it’s pretty as can be!
A Paloma is simply a combination of tequila (I like Blanco for this recipe), fresh grapefruit juice, fresh lime juice, a splash of bitters and grapefruit soda. That’s it.
What makes it sassy is rimming the cup with Tajin, a mildly spicy dried chili and lime seasoning blend from Mexico. It adds zing to virtually any type of dish or cocktail. You can also use salt if you don’t want that sassiness…your choice.
Shake the tequila blanco, juices and bitters together with ice in a shaker, strain it over ice in a cup that’s been rimmed with Tajin. Top in with sparkling grapefruit soda (I like Fever Tree) and enjoy this refreshing cocktail!

Makes: 2 servings
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
- 4 ounces tequila blanco
- 3 ounces freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
- 2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
- Splash of bitters
- 4 ounces grapefruit soda (such as Fever Tree)

Place the Tajin or salt on a small plate. Rub the rim of a highball or rocks glass with lime; dip the rim in the plate of salt. Fill the glass with ice and set aside.
Combine tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice and bitters in a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice, cover, and shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker is very cold, about 20 seconds.
Pour through a strainer into prepared glass. Top with grapefruit soda, garnish with a grapefruit wedge or peel and serve.
